Product Introduction
The BSW nut is an imperial-sized Heusler coarse-threaded nut, while the UNC nut is a US-sized unified coarse-threaded nut. Both are standard coarse-threaded nuts in the inch system, but their tooth shapes, pitch, and standard systems are completely different, and they cannot be directly interchanged.
BSW Nuts
Core Characteristics
Pitch Angle: 55° (different from 60° in metric / imperial systems)
Top/Bottom of Teeth: Arc-shaped (Rounded), resistant to stress concentration and less prone to tooth breakage
Pitch: Represented by TPI (teeth per inch), for example, 1/2" BSW = 12 TPI (pitch ≈ 2.12mm)
Grade: Commonly used for internal threads, N (standard grade), M (medium grade)
Common Specifications
1/4"-20 BSW (20 teeth per inch)
3/8"-16 BSW (16 teeth per inch)
1/2"-12 BSW (12 teeth per inch)
5/8"-11 BSW, 3/4"-10 BSW, etc.
Application Scenarios
Old equipment, machinery and vehicles from the UK / Commonwealth countries
Traditional plumbing, piping (related to BSP)
Retro equipment, ships, railways legacy componentsUNC Nuts
Key Characteristics
Pitch Angle: 60° (consistent with metric M thread)
Top/Bottom of Teeth: Flat (Simple processing, stable strength)
Pitch: TPI indicates, for example, 1/2" UNC = 13 TPI (Pitch ≈ 1.95mm)
Grade: Commonly used grades for internal threads are 2B, 3B (accuracy level)
Common Specifications (Examples)
#4-40 UNC, #6-32 UNC, #8-32 UNC, #10-24 UNC
1/4"-20 UNC, 3/8"-16 UNC, 1/2"-13 UNC
5/8"-11 UNC, 3/4"-10 UNC, 1"-8 UNC, etc.
Application Scenarios
North America / Global industrial equipment, automobiles, construction machinery
Electronics, furniture, construction, aerospace
Tripods, camera pan-tilt (1/4"-20 UNC is universal)
